SkinPen Precision Elite microneedling device with sterile single use cartridge and treatment supplies at Sleek IV & Wellness in Prosper, TX
Our SkinPen® setup: FDA-cleared device, sterile single use cartridge, and prep supplies for every treatment.

Most people who ask us about microneedling have the same two questions: does it actually work, and how much does it hurt? Fair questions. Microneedling has been around long enough to have a track record, but it has also picked up a lot of hype along the way. Here's a plain explanation of what SkinPen® microneedling does, who it helps, what a visit for microneedling in Prosper, TX at Sleek IV & Wellness looks like, and what it costs.

What microneedling actually does

Microneedling uses a handheld device with very fine, sterile needles to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the top layers of the skin. Those micro-injuries are too small to leave a mark, but they're enough to switch on your skin's repair process, which means new collagen and elastin production over the following weeks.

That's the whole mechanism. Nothing is injected and nothing is burned or peeled away. The improvement comes from your own skin rebuilding itself with better structure than it had before.

We use the SkinPen® Precision Elite, the first microneedling device to earn FDA clearance. That matters for two reasons: the needle depth is precise and adjustable, and the cartridges are single use and sterile, so there's no cross contamination risk you'd worry about with dermarollers or unbranded pens.

Who microneedling in Prosper TX helps

Microneedling is one of the more versatile treatments we offer, because it works on texture and tone rather than one specific problem. It's a good fit if you're dealing with:

  • Acne scars, especially the shallow, pitted kind that makeup settles into

  • Fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead

  • Enlarged pores and rough or uneven texture

  • Sun damage, melasma, and hyperpigmentation

  • Stretch marks and surgical scars

  • Mild skin laxity on the neck, jawline, or décolletage

One thing worth knowing: SkinPen® is safe for all skin tones, including deeper complexions. Some resurfacing treatments carry a real risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation for darker skin. Microneedling doesn't use heat or light, so that risk is much lower when it's done by a trained provider at the right depth.

What a visit looks like

Consultation first. Every new microneedling patient starts with a free aesthetic consultation. Yvonne, our nurse practitioner, looks at your skin, talks through what's bothering you, and checks that microneedling is the right tool for it. Sometimes it isn't, and we'll tell you.

Numbing. A topical numbing cream goes on for about 20 to 30 minutes. Most people describe the treatment itself as a light vibrating or scratching sensation rather than pain. Bonier areas like the forehead feel a bit more than the cheeks.

The treatment. The actual microneedling pass over the full face takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes. We adjust needle depth by area, so thinner skin around the eyes is treated differently from thicker skin on the cheeks or scars.

Aftercare. You'll leave looking like you have a mild sunburn. That fades over 24 to 48 hours. We send you home with aftercare instructions and, for series packages, a complimentary aftercare kit. The main rules: no makeup for 24-48 hours, no active skincare (retinol, acids, vitamin C) for a few days, and diligent sunscreen after 24hrs.

Plan on about an hour door to door.

Downtime and the results timeline

Day 1–2: Pink to red, a little tight or warm. Most people are fine going about their day; some prefer to schedule on a Friday.

Day 3–7: Skin may feel dry or lightly flaky as the surface turns over. By the end of the first week, most patients notice their skin looks brighter and feels smoother.

Weeks 2–6: This is where the real change happens. Collagen remodeling is a slow process, and the improvement in scars, lines, and texture builds gradually.

Up to 6 months: Collagen production continues well after the last session, so results keep improving.

For most concerns we recommend a series of three to four treatments spaced about four weeks apart. A single session is a good way to see how your skin responds, but scars, static wrinkles, and deeper texture issues need repetition to remodel - up to about 6 treatments in severe cases.

Exosomes and P.E.A.R.L: the add-ons worth knowing about

The micro-channels created during microneedling only stay open for a short window, which makes it the ideal moment to deliver regenerative ingredients deeper than any serum could reach on intact skin.

We offer two add-ons from AnteAge®:

  • AnteAge® Exosomes deliver growth factors and signaling molecules that tell your skin cells to repair and rebuild. In practice, patients who add exosomes tend to have less redness, shorter downtime, and a noticeable boost in results.

  • P.E.A.R.L is AnteAge's newest formulation, combining exosomes with PDRN, antioxidants, growth factors, and amino acids for an even stronger regenerative signal.

Neither is required. If you're treating acne scars, sun damage, or want faster recovery, we'll usually recommend one of them at your consult. If you're doing a maintenance session on healthy skin, plain SkinPen® may be all you need.

What it costs

SkinPen® microneedling at Sleek IV & Wellness starts at $299 for a single full face treatment. Series packages bring the per session cost down. All treatments include a complimentary aftercare kit but P.E.A.R.L has it's own premium aftercare kit included. Exosome and P.E.A.R.L add-ons are priced separately, and we'll walk you through exactly what your plan would cost at your consultation before anything is booked.

We're a cash-pay clinic, and we accept HSA and FSA cards.

Why have it done by a nurse practitioner

Microneedling is widely available, and prices vary a lot depending on who's holding the device. The reason we treat every patient ourselves rather than delegating comes down to depth and judgment. Needle depth that's too shallow does nothing; too deep causes unnecessary trauma, especially in darker skin. Knowing where that line is for each area of your face is a clinical decision, and having a provider who can also assess your skin for anything that would make microneedling a poor choice (certain skin conditions, recent isotretinoin use) is part of the safety picture.

Frequently asked questions

Does microneedling hurt? With numbing cream, most people rate it a 1 or 2 out of 10. It feels more like vibration than needles. Most clients deny feeling pain.

Can I do it if I have active acne? Not over active inflammatory breakouts. We will assess your skin prior to your first session. We'll get the acne under control first if we determine we cannot microneedle same day, then treat the scarring after your acne is under control.

How is SkinPen® different from at-home dermarollers? Depth, sterility, and precision. At home rollers don't reach the depth needed for collagen remodeling, and reused rollers carry an infection risk. SkinPen® cartridges are single use and the device is FDA cleared.

Can I combine it with other treatments? Yes. Many patients alternate microneedling with botox or our skin brightening IV therapy for skin hydration and to enhance results. We'll space them appropriately in your plan.

When should I not book? Avoid scheduling within two weeks of a big event, right after significant sun exposure, or while using retinol or acids without pausing them first.
